Playable from level 1 - 40 .. PvM Build

I like rangers, but i always feel that a figher with just 6 lvls and EWspecialization is almost always better. Yet I find something very cool about rangers so heres another one

Ranger 30 / Rogue 3/ WM 7

Starting stats
Str 12
Dex 18 (30)
Con 12
Wis 8
Int 14
Cha 8

Put everything into Dexterity. (+10)

01) Rogue 1 - Dodge, mobility, Intimidate +4

02) Ranger 1 - FE_1

03) Ranger 2 - Exotic weapons

04) Ranger 3

05) Ranger 4

06) Ranger 5 - WFocus, FE

07) Ranger 6

08) Ranger 7

09) Ranger 8 - Weapon Finess

10) Ranger 9

11) Ranger 10 - FE_2

12) Ranger 11 - Spring

13) Ranger 12

14) Ranger 13

15) Ranger 14 - Expertise

16) Ranger 15 - FE_3

17) Rogue 2 - Max UMD and Tumle at 20

18) Ranger 16 - Whirlwind

19) WM 1

20) Wm 2

21) Wm 3 - Imp Crit

22) WM 4

23) WM 5

24) WM 6 - EWFocus

25) WM 7

26) Ranger 17

27) Ranger 18 - Armor SKin

28) Ranger 19

29) Ranger 20 - FE_4

30) Ranger 21 - Bane of Enemies

31) Ranger 22

32) Ranger 23 - FE_5

33) Ranger 24 - Greater Dex I

34) Ranger 25 - FE_6

35) Ranger 26 - FE_7, FE_8

36) Ranger 27 - Greater Dex II

37) Rogue 3 - Max Tumble and UMD at 40

38) Ranger 28

39) Ranger 29 - FE_9

40) Ranger 30 - FE_10

Final Score:

Naked AC - 30
Naked AB for two Kukris - 42

Saves
Fort - 21
Reflex - 29
Will - 15

You have uncanny dodge (which arrives a bit late) but early on you do get Evasion.

You have 10 Favorite Enemies

and you have 228 skill point.

High AC and AB and a lot of skills is what allows him to survive almost anywhere.

I think you shortchanged yourself 1 Favored Enemy

So, you should get FE_2 at level 6 and FE_3 at level 11, etc. Nice build though . Simple but effective.

Edit: One thing I would probably switch around though to make it better at lower levels is push mobility to level 9, pick up exotic weapons at level 1, weapon finesse and level 3, and weapon focus at level 6. If you put 4 into tumble at level 1, and with your Dex, you should tumble well enough to not really need mobility except as a pre-req for WM. Or, if you really want to leave mobility at level 1, I'd still move weapon finesse to 3, exotic to 6, and weapon focus to 9. Getting weapon finesse early is an immediate +3 to your AB with finesseable weapons. I think it would be easier at low if you could at least start wielding some martial finesseable weapons well early on, and then switch to kukris at level 6. At the absolutely least, weapon finesse has to come before weapon focus, as it will cause a much bigger increase to your AB than Weapon Focus would at level 6 (+3 vs. +1).

I agree with Steve, except his proposal would cause you to readjust your leveling. As long as you start with Rogue, you can't take Exotic Weapon Proficiency. Or Finesse, or Focus. These are problems, especially if you plan to play this character first level through a Module. Modules are often not as friendly as OCs, and there's less room for "down the road".

I think you would have to rely on using missile fire and smart Rogue tactics to survive 1st level. Eye of the Beholder is a good testing ground for this...

I like it, however. You have 10 Favored's, Bane, an awesome threat range, good AB, decent AC. I like it better than the Dev Crit versions of Ranger. Well done.

However, the Will save is pitiful. And no slippery Mind. Also, 30 levels of Ranger with an 8 Wisdom. You may want to think about Elf or Halfling and replace Rogue with Shadowdancere of Elf. Or keep it if Halfling. But you could use the boost. Going Elf might not be a bad option. It's actually quite useful to be able to buff your own Animal Companion with Magic Fang and Cat's Grace, and Greater Fang.

Forgot that Exotic needs +1 BAB. Well, that only eliminates the 1st of the three options then. Then I'd take finesse at 3rd, exotic at 6th, weapon focus at 9th. And yeah, you would need a bow until 3rd level of course, but you'd do alrighty with it.

Steve OK, i switched Finess to lvl 3, your right ofcourse, dont know what i was thinking

I also like rangers (of this veriety) because they can wield almost any weapon with great efficiency. It doesn't matter much who they face, they will always have a good AB, and they will have great damage against the FEs. so this guy can wield a bow or a mace and shield or what not, and still do good damage to 10 racial groups. not too bad.

As for the race and so forth, If you look at the feat list, only human with a rogue as starting lvl could have pulled off this feat selection and stats choice.
I know that a lvl 30 ranger will have a pretty powerful companion (lvl 24 i think) but still, its not worth the stat points when this guy has UMD and can just cast elemental swarm or some other lvl 9 summon (if available).

I like them too, but I feel that this build could be improved upon.

I see you went human. It would probably have been better to have gone halfling (+1 to AC, AB and all saves and 4 extra attribute points in return for a feat and an extra skill point per level). Or if you can take the XP penalty, go Elf.

Quote:
01) Rogue 1 - Dodge, mobility, Intimidate +4

02) Ranger 1 - FE_1

03) Ranger 2 - Exotic weapons

04) Ranger 3

05) Ranger 4

06) Ranger 5 - WFocus, FE

07) Ranger 6

08) Ranger 7

09) Ranger 8 - Weapon Finess

Definitely take weapon finesse at level 3. It will give you a +3 AB boost. That's much more useful than the ability to use exotic weapons at level 3. If you stay medium, a hand axe will probably be your best weapon, and you don't need an exotic weapon proficiency to use it. The higher multiplier will probably get you more mileage than a high threat range, especially with only Bane and FE for a damage bonus.

Quote:
33) Ranger 24 - Greater Dex I

34) Ranger 25 - FE_6

35) Ranger 26 - FE_7, FE_8

36) Ranger 27 - Greater Dex II

How do get two favored enemies at level 35? You don't get FE as a regular feat and you only get 1 Ranger Bonus feat. Also you can drop the two Great Dex feats for an epic prowess and someting else like knockdown (this isn't a high damage build and the ability to keep an opponent out the fight while you pound on him could be useful, plus you can add your 2D6 sneak attack) toughness, or an epic save feat, in return for 1 AC and 1 off your reflex save.

Quote:
37) Rogue 3 - Max Tumble and UMD at 40

UMD works in 5 level intervals, so you either want a UMD of 41 (40 with cha penalty) or 36.

I'm not sure if you get anything from the WM levels, you have to burn most of your feats to meet the prerequisites and if you had put the extra levels into rogue you probably could have picked up epic dodge.

Should be 41.
BAB 29
+1 Weapon Focus
+2 Epic Weapon Focus
+1 Superior Weapon Focus
+10 Dex bonus
-2 Dual wielding
41 total
