I've been wanting to build a melee shifter for sometime. This build is catered to the PW I play on as you'll see from some of the odd skill choices. However, I think it's a build worthy of posting for those of you who'd prefer to wade into battle without depending on spells that can be dispelled with a wink of a wizard's eye. So, I present to you, Ori Bouldershoulder, Pikel's better half.
Outrageous attacks/round and AC Empty Body Improved Evasion SR 28 Speed Bonus of +50% A shape to handle almost anything Almost 500 hp! A very high AC
Disadvantages: No spells (I don't count that as a disadvantage) Natural form is pretty weak for its level May struggle with some of the more difficult 1vs1 fights
I'd appreciate any comments and suggestions. Some of my goals were to stay away from magic and to get the epic shifter forms as quickly as possible.

Well, i like this char. A melee monster without a high strength or dex. i think that the variety of shapes makes up for the lack of ability in dwarf form. if you play this char in dwarf shape anywhere outside of a shop, then you are playing fair. ask the rogues if that is how they play. Shifters shift. I would make use of that. Looks like fun. The skills are a little different, granted, but not all that unusual. I don't know why you put 4 points into hide and move silently, but i assume this is to sneak around in kobold commando shape? I can't make any helpful suggestions, as i don't know shifters well. looks pretty strong though. why do you take IC: Unarmed at level 18. does it transfer over into other unarmed shapes? if it doesn't make too much difference (20 vs 19-20, i think), you could drop that for another feat, such as zen archery. a little cliched, but it would give your dwarf a decent attack ability.
nifty. looks like fun.

Pikel Bouldershoulder is a Dwarf Druid in R.A. Salvatore's Drizzt D'urden books (forget the names).
I also can't really comment on Shifters as I haven't explored them much; but I was wondering if the Druid/Monk levels would incur an XP penalty with the Dwarf class?
I will say, though, that having PvP'd against a Monk/Shifter, the Dragon form has nearly irresistable Knockdowns (large size, high strength) and/or Stunning fists (high Wisdom). Couple that with your Empty body and natural AC and you prolly have quite a potent build there.
Looks good.

Hm, dmuzzy, you play on the same PW as I? I had a talk about KD with someone there. At DLROH.
Shifters are very versatile, and unarmed feats carry over to at least Dragonform, I haven't tested the others. You are crit immune, true seeing, sneaking, mage resistant heavy meleer. but not at once. In a low to mid powered world a build like this really plays into it's own right.
is there a build out there of somebodies interpretation of either ivan or pikel bouldershoulder? if so, i wuld love to see them twiztidcabbie _________________ DM/Quest Writer/All Around Slave Boy Fabled Glory: Vorish Age; An RP World Direct Connect: 61.90.194.238:5121 Or Roleplay Section of Gamespy Open to the Public Come Join Us!!
Thanks for the feedback, all. If you want Pikel and Ivan's stats, do a Google search for "Bouldershoulder" and one of the results will be their stats at the official Wizards of the Coast website.
The Improved Critical does morph with most of the shapes, so I chose that. In retrospect, I was thinking of taking various weapon and armor proficiencies in order to increase the likelyhood of morphing a good quality weapon with the shifter's forms.
Also, for most of this build's life it DOES incur an XP penalty. One of the biggest disadvantages of the build. However, you're almost undefeatable once you get certain shapes so you won't incur the various XP penalites for death like so many other classes suffer through. That's not an excuse, well, maybe it's a small one.

Here's a redrawn version. Almost exactly the same as before, however, this build has a MUCH more varied selection of weapons to meld with the shifted forms. According to Zelle's dissertation on Shifters, only the added qualities (I.E., +2d6 fire damage) will stack. This will ensure that no matter what weapon you find, you'll be able to make use of its special abilities.
i found pikels stats. but i didnt realize he was only lvl 8. ...5/fighter and 3 druid. i'll be needin' a few more levels than that. i wonder what he would turn out to be at lvl 40? hmm.... twiztidcabbie _________________ DM/Quest Writer/All Around Slave Boy Fabled Glory: Vorish Age; An RP World Direct Connect: 61.90.194.238:5121 Or Roleplay Section of Gamespy Open to the Public Come Join Us!!
Cool build!
Using it my self at a RP server It can easilly be justified.. Heh
And you can actually avoid the XP Penalty at lowerlevels by transforming into a bear.. And get Animal as a Race
Kudos to you
Hom many attacks per round does this build have?
5 unarmed at Monk's progression, 3 otherwise.

If i shift to Drow form..
Will the powers from my Kama shift into the powers to the longsword? Or does it have to be longsword to longsword?
You can hold any type of MELEE weapon and the bonus attributes will merge. Everything except base damage.
