A build I've had sitting in the stable for a while. Never got around to posting it, but having played it for a while recently, I thought I'd post him. I found it quite effective and really good fun. As far as a spellsword goes, this guy's pretty decent.

Seeing it is a strength build, I think you're going to take Heavy Armor & Shield, ie 95% Arcana Spell Failure..
What will be his main spells he's going to use?
nice build as ever, cin. but can you call a mere self-buffer really spellsword?
He has Still Spell, mates. Of course, you can't still the 5th level spells but you can have 4 levels (plus cantrips ) of spells castable in armour/shield. _________________ Too long I have suffered the desert sands of time~ But as I drown in darkness it will release the sign~ My soul will leave this mortal coil of flesh and earthly life~ to fly into the mist of night, into the nightside eclipse~ - by Emperor

Lol, hey, he's a dwarf, just being able to cast cantrips automaticaly makes him a spellsword _________________ If everyone is thinking alike, then someone is failing to think.
Looks good, Cin. I remember this fellow from a long time ago. A tough self-reliant fellow. 'Bout time you posted him. _________________ Got Hommlet? World of Greyhawk Action Server (with 1/2 price ales on Mondays!)

Yeah, I think so. He has some fairly useful spells for buffing and defense available. I don't personally feel he has to be able to go all-out offense to be deemed a spellsword, but I see your point. _________________ Captain's Log, Stardate 6051: had trouble sleeping last night... my hiatal hernia is acting up. Personally, I think the lack of spell power hurts this build a lot. I'd go Ftr 10/wizard 23/wm 7 and be able to fight like a spell-sword should. Fully buffed up with auto-still 3 and casting shields and then tensoring.
But that's just me. I can use potions for most of the lower wiz spells so could take some more ftr or wm if I wanted that.

Actually, I've found it doesn't hurt this build at all. The intent is a 'spellsword' that's focussed on melee, not a caster that can do a bit of fighting. Besides, this one's a bit different than other FTR/WM/WIZ builds in the guild. If you want a heavy WIZ build, there are several already posted.
As for potions, this build can do that as well, leaving slots open for such things as spell breaches. Nothing better than stripping your opponent's protections before wading in with your sword.
Whatever floats your boat. _________________ Captain's Log, Stardate 6051: had trouble sleeping last night... my hiatal hernia is acting up. The ship is... drafty and damp; I complain but... nobody listens.

I think you're making a new build there, not offering suggestions about this one (with Ftr 10/WM 7/Wiz 23). Besides, that has been done before.
And it's not up to you to define what a spellsword should or shouldn't be able to do, is it I think this build can be called a spellsword even if its focus is on the sword and not the spells.

I wonder the difference in the fully buffed AB of the two builds. Plus you'll have to realy on someone to buff your weapon, etc. Gotta love having cleric friends
A tensored f/w/wm can get pretty high AB. But as you suggest, there are other builds posted for that. This one focuses on melee only and has up to level 5 spells. I guess I just feel that if you are going to buff yourself, then you gotta do a better job then that. But if you play on a world with high magic items (+5 or better weapons, etc) then you don't need more levels. You'll just use items to compensate.
