Whadd'ya think? Hacks and slashes, playable enough. PvM, possibly PvP.

Yep, Ladies and Gentlemen, a WM7 build from Valhalla's coming einherjer. The point of the build is to maximise damage output, and and in this case I was willing to give a horseload of feats to get the extra crit-range and -multiplier. I usually do avoid WM7, but in this case I must admit it is actually the best solution.

I don't put a story up this time, for those who even care.

Grim Ripper, aka the Hurtmaster 200
aka the Sane Slasher.

Human, Ranger25, WM7, Fighter8.

Tumble 20(22)

Some room for tweaks here, but this is close to what I would choose in most settings.

Then, to the builds main strength, namely damage.
2d4(scythe) + 15(Str) + 6(EWS) + 2d6+5(BoE)= 30-46(17-20/x5), average 38. Crits are 150-230.

With +5 weapon and +12 to STR44-60. Crits with keen weapon is 16-20/x5 = 220-300.

You can wear plate, but a chain shirt with a casting of Cat's Grace will actually get you 1 higher AC, except when flat-footed. I'll face the facts, saves are crap, AC is bad, but damage is excellent and AB is decent. With the ranger spells you get quite good stealth and you have trap-setting skills. Since your check is low you might wanna get both listen and spot to double your chances. You also have a decent animal companion, either bear or panther.

You might wanna switch EP for another FE if you want, might well be worth it.

Hope you guys have something you wanna tell me about it, so please do.

(I've always thought the scythe is a ridiculous choice for a weapon, so I'm breaking two of my standard patterns here, but it will still hurt ya )

*EDIT* Similar build Fighter 7/Ranger 26/WM 7 by bpberryWRC but that is a dev-critter.

Oh man, a Ranger with a scythe--arguably the favored weapon of Rangers given their farmy/barnyard backgrounds. Looks pretty mean. When Scythe is your WoC, I don't see any problems in taking only 7 levels. I like what Ranger gives you over a ton of WM levels.

Nice one.

Ariel, Ookla, RIDE! Golly gee wowsers. That's ... that's quite a ranger. Even more damage than the last uber-offensive ranger.

CATS! Well done Grim, a scythe wielding Ranger ain't that common... you know they are supposed to be archers!

I'm no big fan of WM 7 builds either but still there are some combos that benefit from it. Scythe wielding builds almost beg for WM. The AC might be low (why Rangers don't get Barkskin is beyond me), saves might be crap but that damage output is so sweet. Rip on, buddy!

Cheers,
Kail

...

i don't get it. full plate gives you 8 armour +1 dex, whereas chain shirt gives you 4 armour +4 dex. so how does this work out, or did i miss something, as usual?

beyond the math above i like this. a strong ranger, and the 7 levels of wm are well paid for. who needs stronger saves when you can just wack'em 3 times and kill'em dead?

nicely done, as usual.

p.s.: i care about the stories.

No wonder you don't, since it's quite rubbish.... I know where my head short-circuited though. You get only 1 less AC in chain shirt, and much less skill-check penalty. My hands translated that into better AC. You figure... I'll correct the numbers at least. And stand by that chain-shirt is a viable option if you forego just the point of AC, with a lucky Cat's Grace.

Thanks for your comments everyone, I truly appreciate it.

*EDIT* Hm, now that I look at it you can take 4 fighter levels pre-epic and get WS earlier, does only cost 1 REF save since you postpone ranger 10 until epics. In most settings it would be well worth it. Just remember to take a fighter level on a general feat lvl to access EWS.

Must remember to dodge this sucker... he's gonna hurt

nice job again Grimnir, but these days I have found myself having more of an issue with saves than I used to!

as long as Iam still sane.

i prefer chain shirt for this very reason. the skill check makes a difference earlier on, and grabbing a sword and board when appropriate. although with this kind of damage dealing i don't think many battles will necessitate that.

i like the name, btw. very...graphic.
