________________

This is an elf Assassin build that I have been playing around with. I've never really been happy with any Rogue build that I have tried (probably my over-playing of the Wizard class). And call me a glutton for punishment, but I've always prefered my Rogues to be Dex based, and if possible, Elf.

I tested it in the Novice to Epic Trainer as well as Darkness over Daggorford and A Hunt through the Darkness. Over all it performed as well as could be expected. I enjoyed having the Assassin's guaranteed once-a-day abilities at my disposal. Even with UMD, it was always nice to know I had something to fall back on when my scrollcase was empty. Which is probably why I enjoyed it more than a typical "Rogue" build. I also found the Death Attack paralyzation to be a godsend on more than one occasion.

Anyway, nothing too unusual about this build. Here are the ones that use the same classes. Mine is more Assassin-heavy than the others (except for Grizz's "The Deathstroke").

Exploit Assasin (Rogue 13 / Assn 26 / FTR 1)
-- FinneousPJ
The Deathstroke (FTR 8 / Rogue 2 / Assn 30)
-- grizzled_dwarflord
Lethal Mercenary (Assn 22 / FTR 14 / Rogue 4)
-- Mithdradates
Smackdown Sneaker (Rogue 16 / FTR 5 / Assn 21)
-- Nimueh_Leafbow
____________________________

Pros
Good Sneak (Death) attack damage
Decent Death Attack DC
Good synergy with Rogue-ish skills and DEX/INT
Decent AB
Improved Invisibility
Darkness
Not a Dwarf (I kid, I kid....)

Cons
Potential issues with DR and Sneak Immune
No Epic Dodge
No Improved Evasion (but most likely not necessary)
Skill starved for a sneaker
No Crippling Strike

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

Cheers Looks good. Ashame about ED and Skill Points, but this is the cross that good assassins must bear.

Ariel, Ookla, RIDE! Why bother with Rogue levels 4 and 5? Take 2 more fighter levels pre-epic instead, and end up Rogue 3/Fighter 8/Assassin 29. Gains you 1 BAB, 1 attack per round, and 1 pre-epic feat of your choice (I recommend Toughness for 40 more HP). The only cost is 12 skill points.

Also, on skills, check the Grimoire for the max required to disarm traps. You can save quite a few by re-arranging those, without losing the ability to disarm all but Epic traps. To disarm all Deadly traps, you only need 36, and with 14 Int and synergy with Set traps that means only 32 ranks (saves 11). You need 22 in Search to detect all but Epic traps, so pump Search by 12 (no point in being able to disarm what you can't detect). For Set Traps, I would aim for 45 (to set Deadly traps), which means you need 30 ranks with no Dex buffs. I would probably drop Open Locks to pump Set Traps some more. Traps can be real life-savers for Assassins/Rogues when facing sneak-immune enemies (Holy Traps are especially nice against Undead).

This will also cause XP penalties which some people (myself included) dont like to build with. But, if you dont mind...that certainly is a good option. "good assassins," Grizzled? I smell an oxymoron!

Sorry, that was bad. But someone had to say it.

My apologies, but I fear much of what I say of late has been cloaked thinly in puns, oxymorons and double entendres. I'll try to spare you from further forays into such low forms of humor.

Ahem.

"...of late..."?

Ariel, Ookla, RIDE! I Like this build is there anyway to drop maybe Rogue and go Ranger or Drop Fighter and Go Ranger.. I really like the feats rangers get.. In keeping the Assasin levels.. Plus the Dual Wielding...

Well, that's certainly an option, but there are pros and cons to it.

Pro's
- Ultravision, makes your Darkness even better!
- Animal Companion at levels 6-10, for extra help (though not much, and not for long)
- Dual-Wield for free (this really only amounts to 1 extra feat as 2 Fighter bonus feats can be used for Ambidexterity and TWF)
- Bonus to sneaking in outdoor areas

Con's
- Loss of 3d6 Sneak damage
- Loss of 6 damage from (Epic) Weapon Specialization
- Crit Immune will give you more problems
- loss of 24 skill points

(there are others, but those are the biggies)

All in all, it probably depends on RP as much as anything. In this case, I would prefer the fighter-rogue combo listed above myself, but by all means, tweak away!

Cheers. Thanks Dmuzzy another question about this build is say you wanted to use Rapiers as a Main Hand weapon and a short short sword or a dagger as an offhand weapon what would be some pointers to that?

You would gain 2 on your off hand AB, but lose 3 from not having WF and EWF unless you spent two feats getting Foci in two weapons in which case you would gain 2 AB.
