Shadow of the Woods

A disarmer who relies on relatively high AB (with the monk schedule) and HiPS to get the job done. HiPS plus Epic Dodge and decent AC will help his defensive posture.

If you take Ranger to 26 (and monk to 9), you can add one more favored enemy and Armor Skin to the build at the cost of +0-2 damage for your fists, a slightly slower monk speed, and Spell Resistance. You only pick up 1 AC for the switch, though, because of the lost monk levels (level 10 monk = +1 to AC).

Good hunting.

I like the concept, but maybe move Bane of Enemies to level 40 Ranger bonus feat, and drop epic prowess for armor skin?

All in all, a nice build, to be certain.. He needs AB more than he needs AC, IMO, so better leave EP in there. I notice you say PvP40, and that is probably right, since levelling a dex-ranger is a pain. Stealth-based builds with ranger included truly will be hard to find.

33 SD 4 Epic Fortitude

ummm....

A little fishy here. How did you take Epic Dodge before Imp. Evasion?

How did you get a bonus feat at 32 AND 33?

I believe the Epic Dodge at 30 should be ESF: Discipline (he has Epic Dodge listed at 36 as well) There would be no feat at 32 and 33 is a regular feat, not a bonus. Wow, nice to see these things debated and resolved before you even know they are a problem.

Yes, this one has Epic Dodge and HiPS for defense, so AB is the focus.

Ranger gets the full AB progression and Bane of Enemies, which is particularly nice for a dexer (extra AB and damage).

Cheers, all, and thanks, Grim.

Someone mentioned Ranger26/Monk9 split, but you might get the best of both worlds with Ranger25/Monk10. Get the +1Monk AC and a Ranger Bonus Feat. You still miss out on the 10% movement and d2 in fist damage increase and wee bit of SR.

It was me in the original post (26/9 that is); I scripted it both ways and figured this was marginally better. Going 25/10 you'd get the monk AC bonus and the Ranger Favored Enemy (look out Gnomes!) but not the bonus feat, which comes at Ranger 26.

Nay. You don't have to take FE on Level 25. You can select EWF or Epic Prowess.

I bow in your general direction, Grizzled Dwarflord. Lol. Please, don't do that. I might be wrong, and then I'll have to bow 3 times as much in yours. It's been awhile, but you might want to crank up the leveller and check to see if what I said is still true.

Ariel, Ookla, RIDE! To save you time I can confirm that both options are available. Hmm, so it would look something like this:

30 Monk 8 ESF: Discipline
31 Ranger 21
32 SD 3 (Dex)
33 SD 4 Epic Fortitude
34 SD 5 [Def. Roll]
35 Ranger 22
36 Monk 9 [Imp. Evasion] Epic Dodge (Dex)
37 Monk 10
38 Ranger 23 RFeat: Bane of Enemies
39 Ranger 24 Armor Skin
40 Ranger 25 RFeat: EP (Dex)

It would net you 2 to AC at the cost of 0-2 damage, 22 SR, and a little movement increase. Not a bad trade.

Yeah, I would speculate in a PvM environment that that 23/5/12 split would be more balanced and give you a bit more overall power, but in PvP I'm thinking that the 22SR is really going to go right in the crapper. Anybody who is going to be slinging spells is going to be really slinging them, if you catch my drift, so you might be better off with just the higher AC.

Ariel, Ookla, RIDE! I always like a good ranger, and this is one of them.

The only thing that bugs me is the push back of BoE and ED. You could meddle with leveling to get BoE a bit earlier, but this is only for those who would take it through its whole life.

I don't have a problem leveling dex rangers, but I like to keep the ranger side heavy to grab BoE ASAP into epic, hopefully before character level 25.

just my 0.5 cents. nice build.

I like this build, in both versions, though i fear the dmg output would be quite weak against anything with DR.
But anyway, well conceived and I'll try this one.
