He had been patrolling the borders of the forest for over a century protecting his home land. As he watched the enemy approach he reflected on the training it took to get this position. Not everyone one could do this. The combination of archery and magic was difficult. That was why there were so few of his colleagues, but they were enough to allow for only a small active military. What few enemies could get past the Forest Snipers could easily be dealt with. With their ability to accurately take out the leaders from such a long distance and do tremendous damage to the rest of the force stopped most invaders in their tracks. That was why after a quick assessment he knew he didn’t need the help of his fellows for this group although they far outnumbered him. As the enemy drew close he spotted the leader and took aim…
A few words first about this build. First, this is a build for a specific server with a minimum four levels per class so he needs four levels in an arcane class. Which class is up for comment, less than four levels is not up for comment. Secondly, I chose Wizard for the familiar and access to Ultravision and Darkness spells, but please give comments regarding this choice. Third, I waited for epic levels to take Wizard so I could get full BAB, but once again please comment as to my choice.

The thing I wonder is, why 4 wiz lvls? Is there a change to AA that I am not aware of?
See, it is nice and all to have ranger spells (though i have never seen much value in them) so I can live with 14 wisdom. It is the 14 int i am unsure of. 30 dex, while adequate for a dex cleric, seems low for an elf bower. (for those of you who dont understand that statement, my meaning is that it is HARD to have the stats to get dex to 30 and wis to 19 in same build, NOT impossible, just hard, while an elf should get 30 without trying).
Other than that it is a nice build. A few years ago, i was into making chars with classes that were unusual (monk with non kama wpn, for example). I wonder what an AA melee focused character would be like..... _________________
Go Ranger 26/Wiz 1/ AA 13 since you ain't even using spellcraft skilldumps and you can already scribe your own true strikes and scrolls with 1 Wiz lvl. _________________ They can't stop us Let them try For Heavy Metal We will die

He foresaw your question and answered it in his preamble:

Doh! I didn't catch it.
The suggestion remains for servers without such restrictive rules. _________________ They can't stop us Let them try For Heavy Metal We will die
Thank you Griz for restating my requirement. The other suggestions, though not meeting my requirements, are valid for other situations.
Well, I think it's good, you're taking advantage that Rangers dual-wield and use shortswords, it's ok if you really need melee, but I wouldn't really use it since the bow gets both higher AB and damage, just 1 APR less won't make your melee hit harder. Bane of Enemies with Arcane Archer is always good. _________________

Yes, Bane-Ranger/AAs dual wield quite nicely, on acc't of the bane etc., as per my Robin Hood (Ranger 26/AA 13/Bard 1) Click Here (who wields quite nicely in fact, at an AB 46 Bane as against all playable races, too, though I went bard of it, w. more HPs and more AA for the higher bow AB 55 Bane and damage (must admit I've a thing for dem bards: give back not only in song, but a great skill set, too _________________ "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good [people] to do nothing" -- Edmund Burke, Philosopher and Politician (1729-1797)

Yes, the idea behind the dual wield was so he could handle himself when ranged attacks quit working, ie. when enemies got too close. Thanks for all the responses people.

Depending on the PW, pretty nasty. On my PW, I have a monk wiz aa (13 5 22) that has dual focus in shortbow and unarmed, with Improved Disarm. With 68 True-Striked AB, I can rob most dex builds of their weapons pretty easily, switch to my bow, then Called Shot their legs when they try to run away >.>
