Other posted builds close to this level distribution: Shadow Stalker (Ranger 10/SD 2/ Assassin 28) by Talamier is a human build. It has lower melee AB than the Deatshadow, but slightly better AB with longbow. It gets ITWF late (lvl 27) and has a later build up of the assassin class pre epic. It takes Discipline and trap skills, but has no Spot or Listen (Ranger 9/ Assn 30/ SD 1) by andymax has a very different feat selection. It has better saves than Deathshadow, but the dual wield AB is only +35 Silent Assasssin (Ranger 9/ShadowDancer 1/ Assassin 30) by Dark Centurion is a human strength based build with Dev. crit.
Stats: Str 12 Dex 18 (38) Con 12 Int 14 Wis 12 Cha 8
AB: +44/+39/+34/+29 with a mundane Shortsword +42/+37/+32/+27/+42/+37 dual wielding Shortswords +41/+36/+31/+26 ranged attack
Damage: 1d6 +1 (19-20/x2) 1d6 (19-20/x2) offhand +2 vs FEs 14d6 DA
AC: 32 in robes
Death Attack: DC 40 Damage 14d6
Stealth: HIPS Hide and Move Silently 43 ranks Dexterity +14 to stealth skills Trackless step, Camouflage spell, One with the Land spell, Cats Grace spell
Ranger spellcasting: 2 lvl 1 and 1 lvl 2 slots.
Pros: Good AB, par with pure fighter type. Good AC and Uncanny Dodge Dual wielder, can switch to sword-shield style or ranged attack 14d6 death attack damage Death attack DC 40 HIPS and high stealth skills Improved Invisibility Evasion and high refl saves UMD Good scouting skills Animal companion for RP and distraction (against IGMS)
Cons: Dexer with no Epic Dodge Fort and will saves Low base damage against sneak immunes Vulnerable against True Seeing Mediocre hitpoints (will only survive 1 maxed IGMS)
Comments: This character is a versatile sneaker that can hit like a fighter, damage like a rogue and hide like a shadow. He is a good scout and a deadly stalker. He has 3 fighting styles: Dual wield, sword’n board and ranged attacks. He can produce repeated paralysing death attacks with stealth and HIPS, with the darkness-ultravision combo or by going invisible with invisibility spells. Improved knockdown let you deal death attack damage as long as the victim is down. It is easy to play this character through the levels. The leveling aims at getting the assassin feel ASAP with effective Death Attacks and the spell like abilities. It also gets HIPS ASAP. I put the second SD lvl at lvl 17 for a tumble skill dump. Some people prefer taking more ranger lvls earlier for the animal companion and earlier BAB progression and early access to ITWF. In this build I choose to build up the damage dealing early. When I played the build I found that the hit ratio and # of attacks pre epic are more than adequate for a HIPSer/stealther. Taking ranger 10 at lvl 21 let me pick an epic ranger bonus feat instead of a 3rd FE. _________________ I generally avoid temptation, unless I can't resist it...
This a pretty solid assassin build, Mick. Great AC, great dualwielding AB, high Death Attack DC, wicked skill set, HiPS, Keen senses, and so on. Nicely done. Nice to see you still kicking it around. _________________ Got Hommlet? World of Greyhawk Action Server (with 1/2 price ales on Mondays!)

First off, nice build Mick. I have played with this exact split before, with a few changes.
Secondly, I dont understand this sentence since Assassin has Tumble as a class skill as well. Would it not be better to take that 2nd SD level a little sooner to take advantage of Evasion?

I believe he was shooting for Improved Invis sooner rather than later, which explains the Assn9 earlier on. At level 17, he could have chosen SD2 or Assn10, and SD2 was the wiser of the two choices. _________________ Got Hommlet? World of Greyhawk Action Server (with 1/2 price ales on Mondays!)

Ahh, right you are. I forgot the part about wanting to be more of an Assassin right from the get-go. I wouldnt take the 10th level of Assassin pre-epic either. 9/9/2 is the way to go. I guess it would just be a personal preference if one wants Evasion earlier than the Improved Invisibility.
Nicely done. Nice to see you still kicking it around.
Thank you!
Like you already have figured out, SD at lvl 17 is a tumble skilldump in a series of ranger lvls after I have spent all 9 pre epic assn lvls.
The lvl split 9/2/9 @ 20 was not too evident actually. If you take ranger10/SD2/assn8 you get BAB17 @ 20. You get a 3rd FE but lose an epic feat, so you will not be able to reach Gdex X if you want epic prowess. You end up with a build with dex 36 and two epic feats you can spend on epic prowess and armor skin. The end result is the same AB but +1 to AC. The price is improved invisibility 7 lvls later (lvl 22). The death attack DC will be 1 lower and the damage will suffer 1d6 between lvl 14 and 21. The will and refl saves and the dex skills will have a -1 penalty. I might have chosen the latter in a build "born at" lvl 40. _________________ I generally avoid temptation, unless I can't resist it...

It's a really nice build, Mick, but I'm kinda biased, as it bears an uncanny resemblance to my Night Talon (Ranger 10, Assassin 28, SD 2 ), Click Here (AB 44 (Naked), AC 32 (Naked), Death Attack DC 40/1 (Naked) w 14d6 sneak and ranger ITWF, 404 HPs, Skills 262 (taking traps and discipline instead of search and listen, but which cld be adj, though thar be some serious damage there, as expl therein, and well, kinda really nice to have that disc., but can tweak if really want , heh (went Halfling of it for theme, though), er ... um ... (darn that search engine: yeah, I know ... _________________ "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good [people] to do nothing" -- Edmund Burke, Philosopher and Politician (1729-1797)

Nice build Tyr!
I swear it never showed up on my search! But I know that not all builds do. I have the same problem with one or two of my own builds too.
The two builds differ a bit in level progression, but have much in common. Your build clearly deserves a link in my post. _________________ I generally avoid temptation, unless I can't resist it...
