Hola, I'm looking for a dex build with a high ab and ac. No dev crit. Playing with +15 weapons and armor, I hope to get over 80 ab, and hopefully over 90 ac.. i've been looking on forums, but unfortunately there's no search tool on guild forums. Elven Arcane Archer 30/ Fighter 9/ Wizard 1. Start with 20 dex then dex all the way.

Elven Arcane Archer 30/ Fighter 9/ Wizard 1. Start with 20 dex then dex all the way.

Correction on that

Elven Arcane Archer 29/ Fighter 10/ Wizard 1. Start with 20 dex then dex all the way.

This will get you 1 extra fighter feat, you only need 29 AA levels to get the max ab bonus.

I have a build at home like this one, can look it up if you want to, just pm me about it then (so I won't forget ). On request
This is an adapted version of the "Reliable Archer", this version I got the AB and damage a little more up, and switched some feats I didn't like.

Race: Elf

Alignment: Any

Base Attributes:
STR: 14 => 14
DEX: 20 => 40
CON: 10 => 10
WIS: 8 => 8
INT: 12 => 12
CHA: 8 => 8

Leveling Guide:
Levels 1-9 Fighter
Level 10 Wizard
Levels 11-20 AA
Level 21 Fighter
Levels 22-40 AA

Final Level Distribution:
Fighter: 10
Wizard : 1
AA : 29

Attribute Bonuses
All 10 attribute bonuses go to dexterity

Feats
Level 1: Luck of Heroes, Point Blank Shot
Level 2: Weapon Focus (longbow)
Level 3: Dodge
Level 4: Weapon Specialization (longbow)
Level 6: Mobility, Spring Attack
Level 8: Called Shot
Level 9: Rapid Shot
Level 12: Improved Critical (longbow)
Level 15: Toughness
Level 18: Blind Fight
Level 21: Epic Weapon Focus (longbow), Epic Weapon Spec (longbow)
Level 24: Great Dex I
Level 25: Great Dex II
Level 27: Great Dex III
Level 29: Great Dex IV
Level 30: Great Dex V
Level 33: Great Dex VI, Great Dex VII
Level 36: Great Dex VIII
Level 37: Great Dex IX
Level 39: Great Dex X

Final Saves:
Fortitude: 24
Reflexes: 36
Will: 18

BAB: 29

AB and Damage:
(No buffs, Normal Longbow)
62/57/52/47 1-8 + 21 (19-20 X3)

AC
29 (Clothes, No Buffs)

Hitpoints 376 (maximum every level, if I calculated correctly...)

As for skills, I didn't write them down, but I maxed tumble (20) and spellcraft (20)
, besides that you are free to pick what you like. Spot and Listen can be used to detect hidden targets, or you can hide yourseld with Hide and Move Silently, just depends on your playing style.

Now you can exchange two of the Great Dex feats for Armor Skin and Epic Prowess, this will get you one less AB (61/56/51/46), but one extra AC (30), it's just what you prefer .

Thanks for posting this. One question: I thought with a Tumble over 15 you eliminated attacks of oppportunity. If this is true, do you need Mobility and Spring Attack feats?

Thanks,

I'm not sure, but I've heard something like that too. If it's true you don't need them, you can replace them by some other feats you like. Something for initiative would be good I think. Tumble roll is modified by dex so you actually need less than that, but since it gives 1ac every 5 ranks(not skill) then its useful , as for mobility and spring attack , imo they dont add much to the build.

Seems to always be good advice. 2 great dex feats will raise ac and ab by 1 but armor skin will raise ac by 2 and epic prowess will raise ab by 1... so there is only good to be gained. This is generally what I do when thinking about how many great stat feats to take.

When playing a build that does not need multiple stats it is OK to start at 20 for the main stat, but I wouldn't recommend it otherwise.. going from 19 to 20 in a stat is expensive and sometimes can mean the difference of 40-80 hp or being able to get imp KD.

So, yeah, nice build. Is Wizard the better class to use to bridge Fighter to Arcane Archer? Wouldn't two levels of Bard be of more use to this character? Taking the second level of Bard at the end of this character's career would grant Tumble and Use Magic Device.

Why did you choose wizard for this build?

If anyone else wants to jump in with their thoughts go ahead.

Thanks,
Kaliban. The main reason for going wizard is that Elves get wizard as a favoured class, so taking fighter 9 wizard 1 won't have an xp penalty, whereas fighter 9 Bard 1 will.

That said, I've got a build that keeps fighter and bard levels close to avoid the xp penalty, and it's pretty good. Not only do you get tumble and UMD, you also get Bardsong, which is nice.

Oh yes of course. I've been testing builds on Howard's Lord of the Rings mod which is an Easy Level PW. You gain a level for sneezing so I forgot about experience penalties.

It's not really a good place to test builds though - the monsters are uber-tough to compensate, so the whole system is skewed compared to most other PWs. The predominant characters here are ultra-AB Weapon Masters or battle sorcs. You rarely see dexers or archers.

Thanks again for clarifying. I'll take a look at your linked build.

Kaliban.
