The closer I look at a lot of builds, it seems that they are pre-generated for lvl 40 only. I believe the 40th lvl cap class to round off the character plus getting +16BAB before lvl 20 to get 4 attacks per round.
So I was wondering if it is possible (in any way) to get a better idea of which builds can survive the long slow climb to 40.
Perhaps a contest of builds that are effective throughout their lifetime. Or possibly a forum for developable epic builds?
How does that sound?
That's pretty much impossible because it depends a lot on what items you can get - with no items at all fighter classes are pretty much screwed.
I have thought about making a thread with chars from 15 to 28 or something for HotU but the game is so easy already that I felt it was useless, LOL!

I'm not entirely sure that it depends only on items. Items certainly do play a part. But there is a clear disctinction between characters that can be played through and only played at epic level.
For instance, a character who takes monk at lvl 10 and lvl 40. At lvl 10 has a Disc of 13 until lvl 40 (when it becomes 43). This would be an epic 40 only build.
If the fighter classes are screwed, then compensating with the other classes would be the way to go with play as you go builds.
So I think it is very possible to think of it this way.
If it is a challenge, then perhaps it is worthy of a contest.

Still it depends too much on what module you're playing and what items you can get.
Don't get me wrong I like the idea but it's hard to say what will or won't work well. Just an example could be you're a dex-based finesse fighter going for a high crit range and you're suddenly going to fight mostly undead - you will have a very hard time doing much damage and you will probably have problems with your fort/will saves.
Having said that I do like the dexbased Cleric/"sneaky" type char for it's ability to handle most situations very well
Someone else needs to make some input here, I'll keep my mouth shut for a while
Open your mouth as wide as you like. I would like to see as much input for this idea as possible.
To the rest of you out there, if you have created a epic build that you think is playable all the way through, please put a link in this thread.
If you know of one out there in the epic build page, post the link here.
Basically, if you have any knowledge about a playable build, post that info here.
I think that some "epic char builds" are playable from lv 1 through 40.
Classics like ftr rogue WM are consistiently strong (only really suffering during the first few pre epic WM levels), bard/rdd/ pale can be constiently strong, as can a lot of rdd builds. Most rogue SD builds do very well as soon as they have HiPS and If you really can't stand "cheese builds" then ftr/cleric almost always delivers, especially if multiclassed with dwarven defender or CoT. Shifters may have a hard time pre epic but once they get an epic shape shifting feat then they are very strong as well.
The Dwarven Wall is extremely strong for PvM play, right from the very start. I played one up through the OC as my very first char, so I didn't really have that much idea what I was doing - and it was no trouble at all. Less trouble than the builds I dreamt up myself afterwards, anyway Not sure I'd agree with all the skills suggested but the key aspects of the build are spot on.
I find the majority of monk builds are fairly playable as long as you get average sorta items

Playable from level ..1- 40
Here are some I had in my notes…
I know for a fact there are a lot more build,s, playable 1_40 in the index, But. for some strange reason I don,t seem to have made a note of them. And I don,t intend to look at each build to find them
For all those build,s I,ve missed out my Apologies to the Author,s

Dude, I am hurt! You didnt include my shifter (3 shpe shiftr)! Check the list for link. The hardest part of a shifter build are pre-epic! I sorta got around that by focusing on melee for the first 20 lvls or so. The shifter has decent ab (4 attacks at lv 20, with longsword or scythe), then after lv 20 it starts to get fun.
I guess im not part of the elite around here so it gets missed! LOL jk
Peace
I made the cut!!! Woohoo!!!
Avado: Put your links here. That is what I started this thread for. So folks can come to a single place to find a playable build.
And hopefully it "may" become official/stickied once enough of them are here. Maybe a playable index? Who knows... In any case, if you have 'em, post 'em here and don't forget the links.
I think almost all builds in the index now work even the broken one,s have been fixed by guild members and are now working builds.
also.. don,t forget a lot of builds are straight lvl 40 builds, not very playable from lvl 1..but play just fine at lvl 40
Anyone with a build in the index, and its playable from lvl 1 - 40.. just post the name of the build here ...thats it..thats all i need.. i will do the rest, Thank,s

Woohoo!!!!
I posted a triple WM a few weeks back called the "Adaptable Weapon Master" which I think is strong from lv 1 up to lv 40.
.. Above..
All of my builds have pretty much been put through there paces from level 1-27/28 (I play them through SoU and HotU). I do use point saving.
So I consider them playable from 1-40, others might not.
Come on everyone.. post the build names (playable from 1 - 40) even if its not your build, but you know of one or more in the index. ....that i,ve not listed on page 1

Specially those shifters

Is this really all the playable builds from 1-40.
Can't be...
C'mon folks.
A number of the Epic Character Builds posted are also quite playable from level 1. I've personally played the Rogue Archer and the Divine Warrior from level 1 with no problems. The Exalted Sorceress would also be playable from level 1.

erm...yes all the epic builds featured by Bioware are playable from level 1
err, yeah...right.
All the featured builds in the epic builds page are totally viable and constiently strong from level 1 through to level 40....
Most melee builds and caster/melee hybrid involving the Cleric are good from 1 to 40.

Umm, I would absolutely disagree with that. In fact, some of them are not really "playable" at all. The Undead Lord for example was a good build at the time, but since the last few patches, it's weakened quite a bit (It was designed as a mage killer, but isn't really that effective anymore considering the way Dispels work with the latest patchs, although it would still be alright in a low magic world). The Troubadour Guardian is not that great, and it requires no less than 8 alignment shifts the way it was posted. The Combat Medic is basically built not to survive outside of a party, especially early on. The Dragon Savant is not exactly that great from the start, and the Dragon Kin would have some issues in the early teens. And aside from the actual strengths of the build, a lot of them have XP penalties for large portions of their existence: Blade Juggernaut from level 5 until level 39 for example. I would hardly say that all the epic builds are really playable from level 1 to 40. A few aren't even that great at level 40. And even if most of them are alright, there are still some that quite a bit more evenly strong throughout than others, and thus worth mentioning.

Ah yes .. I forget patches alter things… Well ..in that case IMO I think the builds that no longer work Should be removed …and have 1 of 2 options.. ( first wait until patch 1.66 is released..should’nt be much longer the beta has been out a few weeks now) …then..
Option 1…have the authors rebuild them or…. Option 2…have new authors/builds featured or even both options
Just my opinion of course griphook
