So are the +saves you gain from Spellcraft based on ranks or the actual skill? I heard someone say that it was skill despite what the manual says, but I am not sure where they got their info. Thanks!

Your total number of modified ranks. If you have a 43 spellcraft, and a 14 Intelligence, and a +5 Helmet of Genius, you would have a modified Spellcraft of 50. This translates into a +10 bonus on saves vs. magic.
