This isn't a question of most powerful build or anything like that. Rather, when you are playing alone, what type of character do you find yourself playing most often?

Personally, I tend to play strength based fighter/rogues with a chaotic alignment (I tend to play CG or CN, but I also play CE).

Two wrongs don't make a right but three lefts do. I'm with you Mith (hey, a rhyme!). I tend to go with STR-based FTR/Rogue builds. Second slot would go to FTR/Bard/RDD. Usually CN or TN.

I'll switch it up sometimes, of course and play something totally different, but the first thing that pops into my head on a new server or in a new single-player module is usually a FTR/Rogue. They're just too damned versatile!

*edit* Currently running a variant of my Pointy-eared Rogue build through the Cult of the Reptile God module. Good fun, and she's doing great. Also took that build through the DoD module. Despite the fact it's an Elf, I'm really starting to like this particular build a lot.

my first thought goes towards a ranger, either with rogue or barb levels for UD. sometimes monk or cleric if i am in the mood.

another favourite is cleric/rogue with fighter or cot.

i used to play lawful, but i tend more towards chaotic now. For PW's I used to love playing Blackguards.

But usually I play STR-based Rangers, usually with Rogue and/or fighter combo. I often play Dwarven Cleric/DD's on new worlds and in some mods.

In general my builds are more focused towards offensive power than defensive. I like to have many skillpoints, which makes me include Rogue a lot. I rarely play arcane casters, and if I do I impose rest restrictions on myself or they become silly.

Dragonlance ROH is back, better than before! and I spend a little time here WoG Clerics...

I have tried to play many builds, but alas, whenever i start a new server its always a cleric of some kind. I have made a cleric/rog typically the norm (after i got over the dwarf ftr/clr with 4apr), but more recently I have been lovin mith's cleric/bard/rdd. Mixd with trickery i find it can handle most any situation. I hope to buck this trend once nwn2 starts, but more than likely, i wont

You should listen to avado

I don't play much alone. Most of the time I play on PW's that are more or less RP focused. I still make the characters so that they are able to survive a fight with monsters or other PC's.

Most of my characters are human. But I have made some elves, halfelves, gnomes and halforcs.

More often than not they are melee focused, but with versatility and some caster capability. Some are archers (AA).
All my pure casters are sorcerers.
Many of my characters have bard and a fighter type class in them.
But I also play holy warriors, shifters and rogues.

They are GREAT when in a team, but solo is suicide.

Up against Undead? Use your stone gaze then breath fire on them.

Need artilery support? Manticore for the heat seeking missiles.

Need to interogate that NPC who will not divulge his info? Use your mindflayer akills on him.

Need to sneak by the Lloth temple guards? Drider or Kobol is your game.

Shifters are so fun to play (when in a group). If you get a good tank buddy then you two can do wonders. On servers that have a hard fail on a 1, your basilisk gaze might be what saves the teams bacon. Everyone rolls a 1 eventually.

Roll up a Shifter SD build and you'll create some havoc here and there. I usually play alone and I prefer characters that can do a lot of different things - most of my builds have Bard, Rogue and/or spellcasting. That way it's the most fun for me

Nice thread, I hope we get many opinions here.

Star Wreck One of three usually when trying a new PW.

Pure Wiz or Wiz/ Rogue
Cleric/ Bard/ RDD
Fighter/ Rogue/ CoT

the main formats at least Always a member or leader of a depraved cult. Tendencies for evil alignments and a blend of Machivellian/Faustian influence. Power mad LE sorcs and CE melee sociopaths are my meat and drink, and they are fun to RP.

That all depends on the build and how you use shifters during battle.

My favourite type of character tends to lean towards druid/shifter/monk or druid. I love the dragon shape feat! Funny. My favorite class is always the one I'm not playing, if you catch my drift. That said, I enjoy the hell out of Fighter/Rogue/DwDs.

Ariel, Ookla, RIDE! Wow, no Bard friends, eh? I do love a good bard mix character of some kind. Can't beat that song and curse! Druid/monks are a close second.

Most are rogues or rogue/spellcaster multiclass chars. Then I've played often a kensai (katana monk/fighter/WM) and a bard/barbarian/RDD (only a few RDD levels just to have a mysterious ancestry).

I don't know why but nearly all of my char are female. Perhaps because female comes first in the alphabet.

Some years ago all my char had (chaotic) good alignment but now I tend to play neutral chars.

If I play melee, I like bard-builds. I play Fighter/Bard/RDD , Bard/CoT/Palemaster or a Fighter/Monk/CoT i have been working with. I like combination of melee play with some tactical options other than just charge, hack and slash

If I play stealth I go epic rogue. I have a nice Fighter8/Weapon Master7/rogue25 with self concealment V and epic dodge I enjoy.

If I go roasting I like sorcerer with constitution (DR) and charisma (spell DC), completly ignoring fighting. I play a Sorcerer28/PM10/Paladin2. All time favorite has to be pure monk. You will never be the best fighter. You won't be the best rogue. But its a versatile class, and the idea of transforming the body into a supernatural force of nature through disciplined willpower is just awesome.

I also like archer rogues for the massive sneak attacks. That is a lot of fun too.

Never been much of a fan of casters, but if I had to play one, I would go with a scorcerer. I have many favourite builds and most of them imply 25+ Cleric levels. My personal favourite is Jormundgandr, otherwise I really love Cleric 26/Bard 4/RDD 10 both WIS and STR based. My recently posted Cleric 38/FTR 1/Bard 1 is quite enjoyable too, especially if you manage to find a server with a Finnish pantheon (it's supposed to be a cleric of the finnish god of Death Tuoni). Cleric 25/ROgue 13/SD 1 is another top favourite build.

Shifter builds are lots of fun too, I go for all the shapes for better versatility.

Lately I have become quite fond of PM 10 builds, it might be a phase but I came out with some really interesting builds.

High lvl Rangers and Paladins are also quite enjoyable. Bards are another class I'm fond of, usually ranging from 16 to 26 lvls (apart the 1 to 4 lvls for skill dumps and/or access to PM or RDD). Bard/RDD/PM is quite a blast to play.

I'm not the mage type in NWN, but I pick the Exalted Sorceress when I want to play one.

Too many good builds to choose from, that's a curse!

Cheers,
Kail

If everyone is thinking alike, then someone is failing to think. Either Gnome Wizard 37/Rogue 2/Fighter 1 or a Human Cleric 29/CoT 10/Monk 1 I prefer melee combatants with some versatility - particularly spellcasting abilities or the rogue skill set. Warrior rogues and battle clerics are very nice. Monks are also a favorite, but I've played so many monks I've been focusing on other builds for variety.

Warrior bards are my current focus of attention - a solid combination of skills and spells both.

Experience is the mother of good judgement; bad judgement is the father of experience. I play a lot with Druids, they're very versatile and playable, but my favorite are Dwarven Defenders, I can laugh at my weak enemies, and it's really easy in PvM, with added potential for PvP. I find myself having the most fun with a monk 9/assassin 26/sd 5 elf with 6 con, full dex and epic dodge and using my fists as weapons. I guess I'm a sucker for punishment that way, one mistake or just a bit of bad luck and I'm dead. But I have great fun playing it. ED/SCV's all the time

Rogues/Fighter/X combos mostly, but I also enjoy a good Monk build or a Cha/Wis based melee-cleric.

I -rarely- play casters. My favorite is a Chaotic good ranger with double short swords. Sometimes I also like an LE Fighter/WM/BG with great scythe, which looks like "death" itself. In single play mods, I've always gravitated toward "good" characters. Archer/rangers or druids.
But when I started playing NWN PWs, I've had the most fun playing evil or "thuggish" characters. If you've got some evil friendly DMs, you can take part in some very interesting plots.
Oh and even though they're kind of gimpy, I love half-orcs and hate hate hate elves. In NWN the models are just plain fugly! But I digress..
My all time fave of this sort was a half-orc barb/rogue/BG. Played this character for several years till I retired him. Fun topic, Mith.

For wanderingn around bopping things, I like monks. They're just fun.

For a strong RP environment, no one is as much fun to play as a bard--someone annoys you, make up an insulting song about him; and I lean toward chaotic-good.

Occasionally, I enjoy coming up with a really nasty, cruel evil rogue/blackguard, and then playing him as a cheerful, friendly, nice guy until he's ready to stab you in the back.
