What spellsword do you like to play? What do you think is the best spellsword build around?
Is it a sorcerer/RDD or one of the wizard builds, and what other classes are involved?
Relevant qualities in a spellsword: AB Melee damage # of attacks/round Combat feats
Spell penetration Spell DC Indispellable Metamagic Still/autostill
AC Saves Skill selection Divine feats Immunities
Playability Ease of leveling
Cool Factor *bling-bling*
Other qualities...
So what do you like and how do the different builds compare?
If you are tempted to say cleric, druid or bard, that's off topic unless you use them for minor multiclassing. And - Yes, I know why you want to use them.
Some of my candidates:
Arcane Knight (Angel of Vengeance) (Sor 26 / RDD 10 / Fig 4) by TyrTemplar
Might & Magic (Wiz 26 / Brd 4 / RDD 10) by dmuzzy (with input from FinneousPJ)
Dragonfire Warrior (Sor 26 / Pal 4 / RDD 10) by x-x-Shadow-x-x
Black Dragon (Sor 26 / RDD 10 / BG 4) by LuckyLion _________________ I generally avoid temptation, unless I can't resist it...
I'm biased, so I put up my own build (Dark Magic Permeater).
Basically I love just to immobilize and pound my targets, using mords to take care of immunities. In tenser shape with haste, I have 7APR with a longsword, the ability to deflect arrows, and a terrifying rage aura surrounding me.
Boccob's Magic Blade (Wiz 26 / Fig 8 / Rog 6)
Boccob's Magic Arrow (Wiz 27 / Rog 2 / AA 11)
do work well for me. _________________ They can't stop us Let them try For Heavy Metal We will die
I'm not a fan of spellswords, I usually take Cleric instead, but if I were to pick one, I'm also biased and I'll pick my own:
The Magic Master (Monk 2 / Cleric 17 / Wizard 21)
A weird build with tons of spells yet acceptable buffed combat stats... and some more buffs. _________________ "My name is Thaxll'ssyllia, but you simians may refer to me merely as "Sir", if you prefer a less... syllable intensive workout."
Edwin Odesseiron - Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn
Red Mage (Wizard 23/ Cleric 17)
I liked Thax' build, but i never saw it! I cant believe you held out on me jk
I remember looking at this one way back when and thinking of how wonderful it seemed. After messing with it, i remember a chat i had with the designer, and it turns out that it was a CONCEPT more than a play through build. I think i started this girl about 10 times over the years, but never got her past lv 20, for no other reason than life getting in the way.
This girl has WAY to many spells to manage and has virtually no DC to the spells it does have. The thing with this though, is that you get both spell lists PLUS Dev crit.
Of all the builds i have ever come across, this is the ONE that i have invested the most time in digesting and trying to make more manageable, even adapting the PRC set to it. For that, a long over do thanks to Tengudor_t . Peace And thanks Mick for stirin up these emotions

A dev-critter spellsword? nice.
By the way, yeah I forgot to mention what I like to see in a spellsword. And well, basically, I want to see buffs, offensive spells that can really be used (why the heck can't a Druid be considered a spellbow? I can Stonehold your mom while I hit you with my cool arrows; works for me) and melee stats above of what a Pure Fighter can get (acceptable damage, AB and AC to survive just on that). That way you can at least say "hey, I've got spellpower, and I still hit harder than a playable meleer, so taking this classes was worth something".
I like builds that excel at what they do, and since a spellsword won't excel at fighting or casting as much as a specialized build, playability and versatility are musts. _________________ "My name is Thaxll'ssyllia, but you simians may refer to me merely as "Sir", if you prefer a less... syllable intensive workout."

I played something like Setanta1978's Spellblade with a scythe. I wasn't allowed Dev Crit though. It turned out pretty nice.

Apologies for not really posting a build, but still...
I am not a fan of "spellswords" for the same reasons stated by Thax' and likewise usually make a cleric or druid if I want to melee/shoot and still have decent spellpower (gotta love Zen Archery) but I made a weird attempt at a PvP build in Badlands that may interest someone: Ranger 21/SD 2/Wizard 17 Maximum possible DEX with INT 19. First lvl of Wiz so I didn't have to spend attribute points in WIS, then all Ranger until he was epic. At that point I got him Bane of Enemies, then an SD level to make leveling somewhat easier, than all Wizard with a last SD lvl to skilldump Tumble and H/MS. He was an annoying Mord's/IGMS spammer with any buffs he could need. I fought Ithacan at Badlands Arena a couple times with him (tho I cannot believe myself honored enough for him to remember it). _________________ Like Prometheus we are bound, Chained to this rock of a brave new world, Our godforsaken lot.
