I'm hoping someone can help me build a character, most preferably a dwarven defender, that can win almost any fight just by surviving. I know that 12 maximized IGMS will take down anything, but in most NORMAL fights it would be great to take a pounding and just stand there asking, "are you done yet?" The "battle of 20s" is what I'm looking for. If we have the same percentages to hit each other, and I have DR 30/-, then I should win. Please help me with this build. I made the "Epitome of Defense," but they said it lacked offensive ability. I don't want offensive ability. I want to win in a war of attrition.

Thanks for the help,

King Harbromm Try the Heart Guard by the dwarflord.
Cheers,
Kail No disrespect toward the mighty dwarflord's build, but it's too oriented on offense for my liking. I have, however, tried his build out when I was looking for a good build for a PW I play on and loved it. It's a GREAT build that blends both defense and offense. I'm looking for that build, though, that is the embodiment of defense.

Thanks for the suggestion, though,

King Harbromm What about a DD with ED,SC IV, DR 12/-, UMD and sneaks?
Otherwise DD with SC V, DR 15/-, UMD and sneaks as above?
DR is just mid values, but this guy is hard to hit (and when they do he dodges out of the way eh, eh)

They are all variants of the same concept, a dex based, concealed DD... you can guess from the name: Concealed Wall

None taken.

In wars of attrition, I typically think an SC V build. But I suppose you could run it from the HP/DR side as well. Below is just a pure DwD. Due to the lowered strength, I found it effective to take feats in Discipline to keep it on par( actually it's way above par) with high strength builds. I figured Called Shots/IKDs/Disarm would be an inherent weakness to a low strength DwD build. As a result, his Discipline is equivalent to having a 46 Natural Strength.

Also, I thought it useful to have Improved Expertise. In a battle of the 20's, a natural 20 is blind to the -10AB, so might as well add +10 to your AC. However, I don't believe it works in conjunction with Defensive Stand.

The Fort Save is a Bastion of invulnerability. You'll only fail on a one. Will save should be solid, and the 2CoT levels pre-epic help mitigate a mediocre Reflex save.

As an alternative, you could even skimp out on more Strength and pump more into Con. You could probably safely trade two Strengths for Con to give you 900 base maximum HP.

I even snuck in a few Resist Energy Feats to give him some added defense against Acid and Fire Shields. You could also sub Save feats (Lightning Reflexes and maybe LoH)

If you really don't care about offense and are going with Grizz's build, leave STR as is, pump CON all the way, forget about Epic Prowess and EWF, and take Epic Energy Resist feats or Epic Toughness feats as your DwD bonus feats (and DR, of course). In fact, start with 20 CON, 12 STR, and 13 INT.

Remember the Epic Energy Resist feats don't stack with the pre-epic ones, so take save-boosting feats pre-epic instead.

You may even want to think about Improved Unarmed Strike and Deflect Arrows. That way you'll get a chance to avoid the first ranged attack of every round as well.
