OK... hopefully I get this right this time. I posted to the wrong forum before.
I've long been a fan of the most honorable dwarflord's character builds; and recently, pursuing the idea of playing an archer build, I naturally focused down on two of his builds as choices.

Half-Elven Soldier of Fortune: Ftr10/Brd5/AA25 is strength based - link: Click Here

The Iron Archer: Ftr14/Brd4/AA22 is dex based - link: Click Here

Both look totally cool - fascinating, and like they will be a kick to play... I just can't make up my mind.

Any thoughts?

Because of *lack of time* for actually playing the game, and a heightened resistance to all things "technical", I have remained in a rather rudimentary state of understanding all the finer aspects of rules and feats and AC and AB and...

I would greatly appreciate input into the differences, etc.

*edit* fixed links.

your links weren't working.

Half-Elven Soldier of Fortune

The Iron Archer

But I post and now they are. Sorry I was just trying to help.

And of the two I like the Half-Elven Soldier of Fortune better than The Iron Archer just my opinion though.

And as cin say's below.

Either one is a good choice. Each trades off some potential in one area for benefits in another.

I played the Iron Archer before and it was a lot of fun.

Basically, your differences are that the Iron Archer is DEX-oriented and more of a dedicated archer. High CON is taken instead of pouring points into extreme DEX or into STR. Very little melee combat potential due to the low STR.

Soldier of Fortune has fewer HPs, but is adept at both melee and range.

I'd say the Iron Archer is better suited to being a party-based ranged attacker that can take some punishment. Don't take this the wrong way though, as he's still deadly in close combat with a bow (excellent AB) and can certainly be soloed (I played it as a solo character). However, he'll really shine in a party.

Soldier of Fortune can really solo due to the ability to fight from range or in melee.

Either one is a good choice. Each trades off some potential in one area for benefits in another.

It's rogue, dammit, ROGUE!!! I highly appreciate the input... and yes, I think I'll go with the "Half-Elven Soldier of Fortune". I do tend to do quite a lot of soloing mixed in with group adventuring. Again, thank you.
